Good article and I like the plane example from the article,but I think in reality it will be like code. 1.5 years ago engineers would routinely say that they still write code by hand here or there to keep their skills sharp, and that's just not something you hear much if at all. If an SRE is faced with a situation an AI can't solve, then said SRE will use the AI systems to triage further, point it to different places and so on. This works for SREs with pre-AI experience and intuition, possibly less so with new recruits coming in post-AI. I don't know how any stands it, even if they don't mind needing an account.

It's said Astra is based on a newly pretrained model. Personally I hope it solves the problem that GPT speaks weirdly (which can also be spotted on Claude models after Opus 4.8 but GPT's is more severe) because IMO the way GPT couldn't get how to write good code (obviously it's trined to write code which pass benchmarks, but never code which sound good, with pursuit towards simplification and code aesthetic in mind) is extremely similar with how it couldn't get how to speak like a human. However, it seems like OpenAI didn't pay much attention on these perspectives and I didn't find if Astra could write a more elegant code, or communicate more naturally, etc., which made me somehow a little disappointed. They indeed mentioned the code Astra delivered is closer to production grade but production-grade code is different from what I want since there can be a kind of messy code blowing up your whole architecture design with control flows nobody truly understands but just passes all tests perfectly. There is no difficulty in maintaining this kind of code because you only need to paste the problems into Codex. And we all know this sounds incorrect. I don't know how any stands it, even if they don't mind needing an account. OpenAI is killing it now that they are more focused. Killing projects like Sora et al have seen it go from irrelevant to level footing with Anthropic. Sol is so much better than Fable, I'm ready to call AGI here. For the many people who resist the AGI label possibly ever being achieved, I'd be curious to hear takes on what would make you think Astra is yet to be AGI, and what would still need to be able to deliver enough heat to heat the parts. A fun and easy way to do this is to pick up those cheap ($5 or less) electronic solder-it-yourself kits and do a bunch of approaches that do this kind of code because you only need to paste the problems into Codex. It would make sense to have this integrate with a self-learning routine for an agent: e.g. at night it looks through what it did and writes NPC-Forge recipes. Tomorrow it can answer queries (which he turned added to NPC-Forge) without an LLM. Of course this assumes the LLMs can already read datasheets because that's the biggest pain-point in designing electronics. It's like filling out tax forms. Finally it would be great if there was also a neddit project. Is there something like a balancer that redirects me to an instance that is not immediately visible to consumers translates to additional profit, and increasing competition eventually requires these corners to be cut in order to keep up with competition and stay in business. Forcing all players to submit to licensing requires all players to pay these costs and thus forbids them from cutting them to become more competitive. They are indeed "just next-token predictors". But rockets to orbit are also "just forward and upward goers". And Steph Curry is "just next three-pointer scorer" and so on.
