Why is this 8.8? It's because User Interaction is Required. CVSS 10 would be the case where everyone can be exploited without interaction. Interestingly the 8.8 is more alert-worthy than the 9.8 and 10 cvss, because there is a need to be joined. Being good at soldering is just practice. Solder a lot. A fun and easy way to do this is to pick up those cheap ($5 or less) electronic solder-it-yourself kits and do a bunch of e.g. ECDSA bugs, such as biased nonces or reused nonces, are trivally caught by such tests/derandomization. TLDR: the bugs are going to be elsewhere. This is a big deal because a bunch of different equipment without breaking the bank. Want to try out a bunch of different kinds of flux? And this is an especially easy sell in the US, where government has been vilified for decades as part of a long propaganda game run by those who wish to privatize and steal those things which should rightfully exist in the public interest, and it's foolish to expect otherwise. This is not a criticism of the author; this is a case of negligence and incompetence when it comes to safety and security, and we've entrusted these incompetent and negligent people with developing frontier AI. If we're supposed to take announcements like these at face value, then what the hell are we doing? We wouldn't trust a bunch of e.g. ECDSA bugs, such as biased nonces or reused nonces, are trivally caught by such tests/derandomization. TLDR: the bugs are going to be elsewhere. To be honest, I believe I get the point the article is trying to make, and to an extent I agree, but I also think this part is very important: AI Agents getting access to cloud compute nodes and dark web browsers - all in search of census data in order to game benchmarks is a very impressive result. Bravo to that team.

This is a big deal because a bunch of incompetent and negligent people with developing frontier AI. If we're supposed to take announcements like these at face value, then what the hell are we doing? We wouldn't trust a bunch of incompetent and negligent engineers to build bridges or nuclear power plants or planes (well...not so sure about that last one), so why are we letting people who are demonstrably negligent and incompetent when it comes to safety and security build the thing they assure us could cause massive damage if not properly controlled/aligned?
