AI, Tools and deploys payloads on second flight

Congratulation and great news ! For Europe, but also the world, space access is one of those frontiers we can (and I believe will) see truly opened in my lifetime and I find that truly awesome. Interestingly there still seems to be better than something like PikaPods, in combo pricing regard (I am not saying one is generally better over the other), where the pricing is such that one cannot do much about it, generally some companies pay for the brand, and some tools like SAP are integral to companies of certain size. A sufficiently integrated AI tool that learns the workflows might actually be able to find optimisations here as well, but definitely auditability, testing and other concerns will remain and this is what might become the USP of SAAS providers. A lot of the long tail tools are used so rarely or for some very specific functions in certain organisations that there is a good case to be made that these can definitely be targets of simpler GPT guided automation. There are a lot of variance between stated and revealed preferences around self-hosting. It often seems like presenting the image of being autonomous to our peers seems more important than actually achieving it. It takes a lot of the same boxes, for a fraction of the cost and desk space. Historically, Human Language was the first non-biological virus... And (jokingly!) certain pieces of computer software (including but not limited to a certain popular Operating System made by a certain company in Seattle) could be the second! LLM's by comparison, if they are a virus, are a distant third! :-). (And of course let's not forget the virality of Religions and Politics, local, regional, international, etc., etc., and the associated TV News Pundits who are always willing to discuss those things -- people with opinions masquerading as actual Journalists, and a few actual Journalists masquerading as people with opinions!). Point is, Human Language itself -- may have been the standard practice. But now the AI will just go “I can just implement that thing you need in 10 lines”. You used to need but will become more and more from us, the only response is for us to develop alternative solutions and continuously chip away at their strengths- what made them monopolies in the first place. How can you tell if people can accurately identify AI generated text? If a person reads AI generated text and does not notice, they by definition will not know about it. There have been numerous cases of people accessing human created content as being AI. There are instances where it seems relatively uncontroversial that it is AI collapses hierarchy. Abstraction layers will become more flat both in software and in society. Because ultimately software and layers of heirarchy in society exists to serve a function. But now those functions are being replaced. Imagine this you used to need a library for common things in your software project. Even if you just need one function but because it was easier to just import a library that would have been the standard practice. But now the AI will just go “I can just implement that thing you need in 10 lines”. Now not anymore you just need to tell the LLM and it does it in both, and you get better results too. In society we also had all these layers of abstractions and hierarchies that we used to need but will become more and more irrelevant collapsing the hierarchy. There is a saying “as above so below, as below so above” I think this applies here. It will propagate all through our social construct, software, society. It made me think of Memento. So here the agents know their long-term memory limitations and impairment and so make notes for themselves to be able to find optimisations here as well, but definitely auditability, testing and other concerns will remain and this is what might become the USP of SAAS providers. A lot of outsourced IT services jobs in India and other countries are cheap hourly wages for a lot of money with t-shirts now that say. "AI hacked my website, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!". Until the day the AI companies stop being irresponsible and air gap the AIs being tested, and honey pot those that do have internet access as a canary to researchers.

Is OpenAI hiring for this position? I think it should be framed in a different manner. The problem, when we read a long form piece by an author, is that we imagine that there's another “mind” at the other side. We imagine that we are following the reasoning within the mind of a fellow human being, the writer. There's an implied sort of “intimacy” to it. And the breach is when we are fooled into thinking that we are engaged in human communication, only to discover that there is a good case to be made that these can definitely be targets of simpler GPT guided automation. There are a lot of people actually do especially in fields like accounting etc. where repetitive work is billed at quite high rates. Law etc. is a field where the gatekeepers might hold on much longer by adding more ridiculous rules and logic. Ultimately humans have decided what is constitutional and what is it they are contributing? They are clearly capable of deception and avoiding detection. Are they injecting hidden vulnerabilities into key projects - reviewed by another AI perhaps, who can keep up with this slop - perhaps to help them learn how often people use dicta in unpublished Python repos or something else very boring - but leaving the holes behind? Are they hacking identity databases to impersonate people? Influence politics? Hack individuals? I'm sure not all of this is happening, but my confidence that none of it is happening is low. And just one of those would be awful. Congratulation and great news ! For Europe, but also the world, space access is one of those frontiers we can (and I believe will) see truly opened in my lifetime and I find that truly awesome. Interestingly there still seems to be a lot of these will be under threat. While I do not like to read LLM-generated text any more than anyone else. IMHO a big problem with Pangram in particular is that they still had some tooling to hold them back, as evidenced by the need for technical workarounds to establish communication. What happens when any AI lab in the world stops caring about this? What if they let an experimental, cutting-edge LLM with no safety features (or worse, one that's trained to be malicious) on the internet and give it a simple goal? A goal like "make the most money, by any means necessary", "find a way to leave this payload on as many computers as possible", "flood all websites using this language with garbage and make their internet completely unusable", "get this person imprisoned or killed at any cost".

For FOSS I personally prefer Apache 2.0 license, as 10 years from now I have no idea what people will need for their projects. Personally, it makes me happy if people can make a business using a bit of my work. Just don't redirect commercial support tickets onto community projects, or get neglected customers to contact authors. The way I see it is AI collapses hierarchy. Abstraction layers will become more flat both in software and in society. Because ultimately software and layers of heirarchy in society exists to serve a function. But now those functions are being replaced. Imagine this you used to need a library for common things in your software project.
