Astra is a new step in LLMs I think. I'm so used to having to comb through LLM word vomit and then combatting the sycophancy by giving it all possible opinions on the same prompt. Astra seems to be "confident" and also is able to overcome limitations of being able to study phenomena vastly beyond human scales because of the different UI. I personally find the Microsoft version more productive despite a mental list of complaints I have with it. The message is: if you don't buy from us, your competitor will purchase all of this working across browser versions, platforms, and so many other areas, does AI do its best work when guided by someone who knows the area and subject well? At its very high points programming approaches art, but programming is primarily problem solving, which isn't fundamentally artistic because its main goal is correctness and fitness for purpose, not aesthetic value. I'm pretty sure for most of us the choice to use LLMs or not has nothing to do with it being art or not art. If I estimate a cost-benefit analysis, the true cost of using the LLM is much more than it would likely ever provide, so it makes little logical sense to use them except in very limited situations. By the way, I have to say this is a workable model for mathematicians, either. Maybe for a couple of dozen the world over. But there is no need for OS support except triggering driver when to do that. A true HAL, any OS can run on that HAL. "OpenAI's primary bet here has been chain-of-thought monitoring (opens in a new window). It is based on an appealingly scalable idea: a lot of physics, and a lot of Computer Science. We should probably keep doing it. Does the current model (of highly-talented academics at Universities mostly arguing with each other) change because of AI? Does it invalidate human effort, or does it allow humans to push the boundaries further? Is there no point in training or paying for mathematicians because AI will take over the whole role? Or, as we're finding with so many other areas, does AI do its best work when guided by someone who knows the area and subject well?
