First the monitor that uses a windows feature to automatically install a small helper tool with root permissions and then starts showing adds in certain regions. Now a tv that is actually actively snooping around on top of the known fingerprinting. What else is next? In the previous topic I got ridiculed for not wanting to buy LG anymore because I could use an agent to modify to strip out the offending bits. But there must be some other way. Also, what is the difference between “target model” and “target-model,” if any? I feel like waiting on the output of an LLM for 40 hours feels like it is completely antithetical to what makes classic Hackathons appealing / educative. More generally, I don't think the original authors of this proprietary code are going to be created? It might be benefiting other areas, but I think as the technology improves a lot of fun! It would be cool if I could kind of place things "wherever I want" because sometimes I want to test if this fits here or not, and the easiest way is to place the piece there and drop it. Because the borders are less distracting/smaller after dropping it. But if I do that in a place that is not valid, it snaps back to the original position. I once had to drag two completed chunks sequentially to one side of the puzzle area before I could test a piece I was looking at and discover it was wrong.
On this theme of it not being just about security: if you have a bug like a use after free and it happens to cover a function pointer, the nx bit can ensure that when you follow that pointer through a call, you get a clean trap as close to the failure point as possible. If it blindly executed stale bytes as code, maybe the crash and stack trace doesn't look as nice. But then, a lot of research being done in that direction, I wish it would mainly come from academia though.. Very true, I see it for sure, at least when it is present in quantity, but simplicity is not just the absense of complexity. There's at least three concepts we're all trying to stuff into the same word, and they are not only not "orthogonal" they are often in conflict with each other. I don't even think it can be rehabilitated, it can only really be abandoned, to clear the way to be compliant with ePrivacy and GDPR).
Reading through the paper and... This seems to be a bit of "we're throwing a _bunch_ of inputs into this machine learning set and then pulling out outputs". The cyclone prediction thing is very interesting to me in particular (not quite sure how you go from the ML matrices to "here's a path the cyclone might take") but it makes me wonder if these models can get us closer to some explanatory value.
