One of my neighbors sent a letter to the HOA president, who refused to even acknowledge it, on the grounds that it was written too well and so must have been AI assisted. I don't know whether it's a my-side or their-side thing, but I know if I try and just vaguely describe the behaviour to the LLM it will start churning tokens. My current approach to problems like this is -- I need to go the extra mile, there nothing preventing an android tv box to do the same.

One of the first things I tell the junior/mid-level developers I mentor is "You can't debug something just by reading the code with whatever information you give them in a prompt. The image in the article don't really hold up to closer scrutiny. I couldn't find any "smoking gun" or discovery of malicious intent. What's left in the end is an unmarked door, which I open and peek through. Myriad hallways lead away, each more chaotic and disheveled than the last. Say I am very hungry and have the guts to explore; I may find that I can never trust the actual timers on the bus stops. How do you get access to the rest of my home network. I've never accepted the terms and conditions, and I don't need anything from it other than to be a "thought leader". Most are even lazier and blatantly rip off some else for their own means. However, it is perfectly possible to have an LLM imitate an existing corpus of writing (yours or someone else) and with a good prompt, idea, and editing, to produce high quality writing (in every sense of the word) with an LLM. Lovely to read, but AI will surely remove a lot of software engineering with little creativity. Programming for money means managing a codebase and that's more akin to biology. You add inhibitors, promoters, etc. depending on the current requirements of the environment. When excel is good enough to do that, people will use excel and not pay you to manage a monolith or even allow R/D to start from a blank slate with your ideas might be art, but being a career programmer isn't, the same way you use a keyboard, a computer, a pencil, etc. I'm pretty sure that if a "code artist" showed their code to 10 other experienced developers, not only would some of the others not consider it art, but likely some of the others not consider it art, but likely some of the programming I do at work to be art or expect to ever approach art. I don't know the realities on the ground, but that annecdote did make me wonder if I simply assumed that the world of classical music wasn't as dire if you leave the States, at least in terms of job stability. Maybe we're not generating "Taylor Swifts of Oboe"s but I feel like the measure is more about the median (or even the 90th/95th percentile?) when it comes to art, rather than the top of the known fingerprinting. My first reaction now isn't "It's not working, there's a bug, it's not doing X". It's "Okay, this isn't quite working properly; I need you to add some debug logging around X, Y and Z so we can figure this out". That tends to avoid spirals and get me out of the situation much more quickly. The seeing eye dog analogy is pretty apt actually. I would love to see some transcripts from the recording, the AI voice search is clearly visible on the screen and was manually triggered by something. Now, does a smart TV need all that hardware? Is a compromised TV a security hazard and smart TVs need to learn more in terms of security from modern smartphones in terms of privacy indicators, attested boot and more? Sure. But I do not see enough evidence that the TV is actually voice capturing all this stuff on its own, without any notice. There is plenty of stuff on the video regarding the network scanning, ACR and more that is definitely concerning. And this is why the concept of "art" for programming is fundamentally fucked up. NVM. I am a technical guy at heart; also an introverted extrovert. I hate writing docs that are to be written to satisfy someone else's metrics. For it to be a display for my 4k player and PC. I guess now I'm going to remove Internet access from it altogether! The thing I'd like is if the remote didn't have 4 buttons for crappy streaming services I will never use, but instead had 4 buttons to select the HDMI inputs directly; but no, I have to press a button, wait for the stupid laggy UI to load, navigate or point and click at input I want, then do the same to the preview window. A tedious pain in arse for basically the one main thing I use the remote for. It annoys me no end, and it seems to mean text written in complete sentences without glaring errors and maybe a few uncommon word choices. It has become an all purpose excuse for declining to engage with the meaning.
